Tonight Ben had his first ever soccer game. I was nervous for him, Mark said he was shaking so much and excited for Ben he wondered how he was even able to take photos at all. After the first kick Ben was of and staight after the ball, no need to worry he knew what he was doing (I have no idea of the rules, I'll just be the soccer Mum who sits on the sideline yelling encouragement)
This is our first foray into the sports world of team sport, Ben came away from the game still on a high and saying he was soooo excited that he gets to play real soccer now!!!.
It was quite funny yelling (my throat is sore) "Go Dingoes" and watching a bunch of 5 year olds chasing a ball, diving and falling over was amazing, especially when they changed ends and they had to go the other way. Getting them to turn around and run the other way was hillarious. I guess after only one training session they did well.
They didn't win, but that is not the point. Ben came of the field all excited saying "We didn't win, but the coach said we are all winners tonight" and he was happy about that. We can learn from this and this is from a 5 year old. He already has the concept that we don't have to win all the time, just try our best and we all can be winners, have fun doing it, come away excited and happy.
Maybe as we get older we should remember this and not get carried away with wanting to be the winner all the time, trying our best is what counts and getting in and having a go..... 5 year olds can teach you a lot can't they!!
